About SciFest
SciFest is a science festival with a wide range of workshops, shows, competitions, research meetings and lectures.
The programme is broad, covering the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. During a walk at SciFest, you can go from digging fossils to programming Lego robots, then on to looking for spruce bark beetles and making your own historical exhibition. It's banging, bubbling and moving, the air is filled with joy and energy!
Two of the days are dedicated to school classes from middle school, high school and upper secondary school in Uppsala and the surrounding area. On Saturday, all curious people are warmly welcome. We want to encourage young people to ask the big questions, learn about the latest research, try things out and discover how fun and interesting science is.
Goals and background
Read about how SciFest was founded, what has happened over the years and the overall purpose of the science festival.
SLU and Uppsala University
The first SciFest took place in 2012, organised by Uppsala University. From 2020 onwards, SciFest is co-organised by Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Most of the exhibitors at SciFest come from the two universities in Uppsala, but there are also authorities, companies, museums and organisations.
The programme at SciFest is intended to inspire teaching based on a scientific foundation. Schools can come into direct contact with researchers and get exciting ideas and suggestions to work with at school. We also organise digital teacher evenings together with the Science Festival in Gothenburg and Kunskapsfesten in Eskilstuna.
This is a great opportunity for researchers to share their research with children and young people. It can actually make them understand their subject even better, curious questions can give both new ideas and energy!
